Frequently Asked Questions

What does "galvanic therapy" mean and do I need a device to use this? No device needed. In professional settings, galvanic refers to a low level electrical current applied to the skin to support ingredient absorption and circulation. This formula creates a similar effect on its own through the chemistry of the ingredients. The formula contains electrolyte rich and charged ingredients that, when they come into contact with the natural moisture on your skin, create a gentle ionic exchange at the surface. Your skin's own moisture activates it the moment you apply it. No outlet, no machine, no extra steps.

What is a lamellar delivery system and why does it matter? Your skin barrier is built in organized flat layers of lipids, essentially the same way a croissant is layered. Most formulas are a blend of oil and water that sits on top of that structure. A lamellar system means the formula itself is built in those same organized flat layers, using an ingredient called Hydrogenated Lecithin that naturally assembles that way. When a lamellar formula contacts your skin it integrates with the barrier rather than resting on the surface, which means actives like HPR are delivered more efficiently and with less potential for irritation. It is also why this formula is described as compatible even for sensitive skin.

What skin types can use this product? KRX Bioherb Derma Plus is formulated with a lamellar delivery system and skin compatible ingredients, making it suitable for most skin types including those with sensitivity. Those who are new to retinoids or spicule treatments should begin with once weekly use and gradually increase frequency based on how their skin responds.

How many treatments can I get in one bottle?  The 25g bottle is concentrated by design. Each session requires only 2 to 3 drops, and the bottle yields up to 10 full treatment sessions. At this concentration, a small amount delivers the full therapeutic dose without excess.

Can this be layered with other active ingredients? On evenings you use this serum, avoid layering additional exfoliating acids or retinoids. Follow with a hydrating serum or barrier supporting moisturizer to support the skin through the treatment process.

Is this safe for dark skin tones? Bioherb Derma Plus contains HPR, a gentler retinoid, alongside barrier supporting and calming ingredients. As with any active treatment, patch testing is recommended before full use. Those with deeper skin tones should introduce use gradually and prioritize consistent SPF use the following morning to support a visibly even appearance.

Can this be used during the day? This serum is intended for evening use only due to its retinoid content. Always apply broad spectrum SPF the following morning.

What is the difference between HPR and retinol?  Retinol must be converted by the body through multiple steps before it becomes active in the skin. HPR bypasses that conversion process and works directly at the receptor level, delivering visible renewal with a lower likelihood of the redness, peeling, and sensitivity commonly associated with retinol.

Key Ingredients

Hydrolyzed Sea Sponge (Spicules) at 3,000 ppm Sea sponge derived microcrystals that create temporary microchannels at the skin surface, allowing active ingredients to reach deeper skin layers for enhanced delivery. The spicule complex in this formula is co-processed with hydroxypinacolone retinoate, encapsulating the retinoid directly within the delivery mechanism for more precise, targeted absorption.

Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR) A next generation retinoid that binds directly to retinoid receptors without requiring conversion in the body, supporting visible skin renewal, a more refined texture, and a smoother, more even surface appearance. HPR delivers a retinoid effect with significantly less irritation potential than traditional retinol, making it a suitable option for those who have not tolerated retinol well in the past.

Hydrogenated Lecithin (Lamellar Delivery System) A phospholipid that naturally assembles into organized flat lipid layers that mirror the architecture of the skin's own barrier. This lamellar structure allows the formula to integrate with the skin rather than sit on top of it, improving active ingredient delivery, reducing irritation potential, and supporting compatibility even for sensitive skin types.

Ceramide NP Mirrors the skin's own lipid matrix to visibly support barrier integrity and moisture retention at the surface.

Phytosphingosine A skin identical sphingolipid that supports ceramide synthesis and helps maintain a calm, balanced skin surface.

Centella Asiatica Extract A well studied botanical that supports a visibly resilient, even, and strengthened skin appearance.

Lactobacillus Ferment A postbiotic derived ingredient that supports the skin's natural microbiome balance and helps maintain a calm, even surface.

2% Panthenol Pro vitamin B5 that supports hydration and helps maintain skin comfort throughout the treatment process.

Betaine An osmolyte that supports the skin's natural water balance and contributes to the electrolyte rich ionic environment that works in harmony with the skin's surface chemistry.

 Usage Caution

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and lips. This product contains hydroxypinacolone retinoate (a retinoid) and sea sponge derived spicule technology. Do not apply to open wounds, active breakouts, or compromised skin. Discontinue use if persistent redness, stinging, or irritation occurs. Retinoid use is not recommended during pregnancy or nursing. Introduce gradually if new to retinoid or spicule treatments. Always follow with broad spectrum SPF during daytime hours following evening use.

Disclaimer & Patch Test

Disclaimer: Individual results may vary. Products sold at Skin Accord are formulated by their respective manufacturers to support healthy, balanced skin, but sensitivity can occur when introducing new active ingredients.

If layering skincare from multiple brands, introduce one new product at a time and monitor how your skin responds. Using several potent actives—such as exfoliants, retinoids, or acids—within the same routine may increase the likelihood of irritation.

Patch Test: For first-time use, apply a small amount to a discreet area (such as the inner arm or behind the ear) and wait 24 hours before full application. If irritation, redness, or discomfort occurs, discontinue use.

Use as directed and discontinue if redness, stinging, or discomfort occurs. Skin Accord cannot assume responsibility for reactions that result from misuse, overuse, or combining incompatible products. Please consult a qualified medical professional if you experience persistent irritation.

By purchasing and using products sold at Skin Accord, you acknowledge that individual skin responses vary and agree to follow usage instructions carefully.
